Fruit Gins are ‘in’ at the moment, head to any supermarket and you’ll see a plethora of exotic, sweet & brightly coloured ‘gins’ (well, gin liqueurs… but we won’t get into that here).
Given that ESC are about drinking quality, drinking sustainably & drinking locally they knew this just wasn’t the way to go if they wanted to release a fruit gin.
As such, they decided that any ‘fruit’ releases would only be made using fresh, local & seasonal fruits which cuts down on mileage the fruit has travelled and feeding back into our local community. This means two things, firstly each seasonal release will be completely natural and depend on the seasons fruit for flavour & colour. Secondly, when they've finished production and the fruit is out of season it’s GONE!
So, what’s in the bottle?
- Essex Spirit Co start by creating a traditional gin recipe, perfect for the genuine gin lover: Juniper, Angelica, Coriander, Orange Peel, Liquorice root, Cinnamon & Nutmeg, Orris.
- Once they have made this gin, using their modern & sustainable methods, they then cut the gin to 40% ABV with pure clarified rhubarb juice from a farm in north Essex (Manningtree) – no flavourings (natural or otherwise) to be seen here!
- Finally, as rhubarb is actually very tart with nothing added to it, we sweeten the entire batch with a mixture of golden syrup, local sea salt & pure vanilla essence **fun fact – Golden syrup is made by re-purposing waste from the sugar making process, so it is one of the oldest sustainable brands around!**
The liquid is filtered and bottled, resulting in a mix that is a true gin upfront, leading into a huge natural rhubarb hit before finishing with a subtle sweetness from the golden syrup & rounded off with delicious vanilla notes.
Mix this gin with almost any mixer to give you a beautiful rhubarb cream soda flavour!
